Every business wants to look professional in front of their customers. The best way to do this is to wear clothing with the companies logo embroidered or printed on.
This is all well and good but what happens if the logo changes or staff leave or the clothing becomes worn and tatty.
Option 1 – Put in the black bin and send to landfill.
However, more and more companies are aware of the problems of sending old clothing to landfill, so what can you do as an alternative.
Option 2 – Remove the logo and give to the charity shop
Or
Option 3 – Take the clothing back to the embroidery company and let them recycle or reuse.
Sigma Embroidery and Printing offer such a service. They take back old clothing from companies and sort through it into categories;
Category 1 – Reusable, the logo is removed and a new home is found for the item. Recently Sigma received some warehouse coats from a local company Shearline which were in perfectly usable condition however they had Shearline’s old logo on. Sigma removed the logo packaged the warehouse coats up and have donated them to the Brain Injury Unit in Ely to reuse. They are now being used by the staff at the Brain Injury Unit to protect their clothing during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Category 2 – The garment is not reusable but the material is in good enough condition to be upcycled into an alternative product. In this situation Sigma remove the company logo, cut the material into useable sizes and then donate. Several bags of T-shirt and fleece material has been donated to a lady making dog toys. We received one of the dog toys for our own office dog Charlie.
Category 3 – The garment is not reusable and the material is not of good enough quality to be made into an alternative garment. The logo’s are removed, and the material sent off for shredding to use for carpet underlay or stuffing.
